The Project Room is the Salon Series newest addition to FLATS Studio. What is it exactly? The “Project Room” (also called “The Office”) is a side room off the main gallery at No. 1325. The Salon Series is presently using it to showcase recent Chicago art graduates. What a great use of small space!
Cody Tumblin is a Chicago based artist from Nashville, Tennessee. He is a recent recipient of a BFA in Visual Communications and Fiber / Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. From his background in graphic design, Cody uses editorial design, semiotics, and bold shapes and forms to initiate the approach his work. Generic decorative icons and subtle cryptic messages become inflated into uncertain mosaics of pattern, image, shape, contour and line. His time outside the studio is spent seeking out the best food in Chicago, expanding his library, collecting artwork and printed ephemera, and constantly watching any and all horror movies with his wife, Kayl Parker. Recent exhibitions include SHIT IS REAL at Devening Projects + Editions (2013), a two person show, Pile Hunk Stage, with Kayl Parker at Gallery X (2013), Crossing the Palisades at SAIC (2013), and The Prospective Series pop-up gallery at Untitled (2013).
