In March 2013, Jessie Mott became the first beneficiary of JC Steinbrunner’s residency program via The Salon Series Projects at FLATS Studio, 1319 W. Wilson, Chicago, IL. Best known for her drawings and collaborative animations, Mott has been working on a new series of ceramic sculptures that will be exhibited at a culminating Salon to be held in January 2014.
Jessie Mott (b. 1980, New York) is a visual artist and writer whose work employs a menagerie of human, animal and celestial forms. Mott’s work has recently been included in exhibitions at threewalls, devening projects + editions, The Hyde Park Art Center, Gallery 400, and Swimming Pool Project Space. Her collaborative animations (EVERYBODY, Blood and Cinnamon, A Day for Cake and Accidents) with the artist and writer Steve Reinke have been screened at national and international venues including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, VIDEOEX International Experimental Film & Video Festival in Zürich, Switzerland; the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany; and the Sydney Underground Film Festival. Her writing has been featured in Blast Counterblast, edited by Steve Reinke and Anthony Elms and published by Mercer Union/WhiteWalls. Mott received an MFA in the department of Art Theory & Practice from Northwestern University in 2009 and a BFA from New York University in 2002.
