The FLATS Studio event brought together Cedar Street Companies/FLATS Chicago and DCASE (Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events) to celebrate the ten year anniversary of Cedar Street Companies, and the first weekend of the 18th annual Chicago Artists Month. The event, otherwise known as The American Dream: The (W)Holy Grail, was held at No. 1050 Wilson, an architectural treasure of Uptown that was originally designed to be a 900-seat vaudeville theatre, and was later used as a bank. FLATS was proud to open the building’s ornate and time-honored doors to friends of Cedar Street Companies and DCASE for a night of art and celebration.
Featured Chicago-based artists included: Andrew Balster, Cheryl Pope, Christne Tarkwoski, Deborah Boardman, Derek Chan, Erol Scott Harris, Helen Maurene Cooper, Jason Reblando, Judy Natal, Kirsten Leenaars, Lamont Hamilton, Lise Haller Baggesen, Macon Reed, Montgomery Perry Smith, Pate Conaway, Phil Peters, Stephanie Brooks, Tony Lewis, and Vincent Tiley. DJ Carla Starla set the tone of the night with her music as guests sipped on Koval whiskey from FLATS mason jars and snacked on hors d’oeuvres. The event was a spectacular kick off for Chicago Artists Month, and the promising future of Cedar Street’s ventures and No.1050 Wilson.
