Tell us a little about yourself.
I am currently living through my Jesus year (33) in a loft in Pilsen, and I can’t think of a better place to do so! I have 5 siblings who are all still my best friends, and Miller High Life is my favorite drink, I don’t care who knows it. I like to read a lot, and C.S. Lewis is the man. I am also very fond of a philosopher Peter Rollins. I need sleep like other people need water.
What kind of art do you create?
I create mostly wedding photos these days! Yep, I’m a wedding photographer by trade, and I’ve been doing it ten years, and I am still not tired of it! In my travels, I sometimes bring my camera and capture stark nature scenes, anything grungy, anything bare- kinda reductionist.
How did you get started?
I studied art and darkroom photography in college, and you couldn’t keep me out of the darkroom for about 2 years. I was immersed in the art of Cindy Sherman, Francesca Woodman, Ansel Adams, you get the point. I spent a semester doing an art program in New York City, where I had a free pass to all the art museums, and the living was high!!! I shot mostly with a holga, and I liked to blow the photos up to be 4 ft x 4ft or bigger- I loved making my photos big, and I left the dust and grime in there. I remember having to expose my photos on the floor of the darkroom and dumping the chemicals onto the paper because they were so large.
How would you describe your artistic style?
Unpolished.
