Tell us a little about yourself
My name Is Jeremy Steffen- many refer to me as Uncle Germ. I grew up surrounded by corn fields in Indiana, but have never felt more at home than in Chicago.
What kind of art do you create?
My expertise is in oil painting but I have recently co-founded a business called “Pop-Up Productions” that creates immersive art installation experiences all across Chicago.
How did you get started?
In a lot of ways I feel like I’m still getting started. I’ve been practicing my trade ever since I can remember, but still haven’t touched the surface of what I want to accomplish. I have very high ambitions and think everyone will know once I’ve really gotten started.
How would you describe your artistic style?
I’d describe my style as realism influenced by the manipulation of color and the organic nature of paint. Using sanding, dripping, layering, and color theory, I try to use my work as a means of educating myself and others on a beauty that can only be revealed through painting. I’m currently attempting to use my style to support, in any way, the Black Lives Matter movement and plan to use the proceeds to help the cause.
